Mon, Jan 31: 12:40-1:40
Today I gathered all of the footage I needed for the Ultrashine commercial on my camera. It was annoying to shoot in my tiny little bathroom, but I think I did a decent job. This means most of the work I have left is just to do the animation of Toothy.

Have I Got A Toothpaste You Should Try!
Jan 30:
I worked 10-Noon on another part of the project. Instead of working on the end, I did a part where Toothy introduces the toothpaste and the logo pops up on screen. This was easy because one of the lines was almost the same as yesterday, so the mouths were already closely synced, saving me a lot of time.

Saturday Work
Jan 29: 11:00-12:30 and 4:45ish to 6:45ish.
Worked a total of 3 and a half hours animating Toothy. I finished the first part where he appears on frame and says he has a new toothpaste to try.
I am quite happy so far. It's coming out just how I want it to, but that's just the first 7 seconds, there's plenty left to do.
Since I am not in the frame on this particular shot, I just have toothy over a photo of the bathroom. It's good that I did this instead of waiting to put Toothy on the footage because I realized it looks a little off having a cartoon character on a photo. I fixed this by adding subtle little differences in the characters brightness and tint so he looks like he is actually there in 3D space.
I'll work more tomorrow. Maybe on the last part of the commercial, I'm not sure yet.
And I think I'll get the footage with my camera on Monday, sometime when there's no one around to hear me talking to a floating tooth in the bathroom.

Jan 28: Working On Teeth
Almost forgot to post, so I'm not sure how long I worked on this, but today I recorded all of the dialogue for the Toothy character. I also Animated over a picture of my teeth. I also created a logo for Ultrashine, but my printer wouldn't print it in color for some reason, so I'll remember to go print it at school sometime.
Tomorrow I'll start doing animation on Toothy.

Class Time: 1/27
Today I spent the class storyboarding out my commercial idea and then messing around with Final Cut Pro to make sure I will be able to properly use chromakeyer. After some trouble, I think I got the hang of it.
I have given myself plenty of little things to do over the weekend to prepare to go further on this project:
-Create a logo for Ultrashine Toothpaste that I can later print out and place on a tube of toothpaste.
-Experiment with Garageband or Audacity (because I want the Toothy character to have a high pitched voice.)
-Possibly record all of the dialogue for Toothy.
-Start a few smaller bits of animation, such as Toothy appearing and disappearing, and also effects showing the nasty teeth.

Ideas For A Commercial
JAN 25: Class time
I spent the class preparing for everything I'm going to have to do, including making this blog.
I brainstormed ideas for the assignments I will have to complete this semester, including the commercial:
I changed my idea from Super-Powered Skittles to Toothpaste.
Ultrashine! Toothpaste with the cleaning power of a hundred suns!
This will be the first animation I will work on this semester, and it will be the first time I combine live action film with animation, so I'm excited to work on it.
I'll just need to figure out how to do that in Final Cut.
The animation will mostly be of the tooth character that is trying to sell the toothpaste to a person (me), and a few other effects.
(I'm also excited to put my new Wacom tablet to good use.)
I will storyboard this idea, and once approved, will get right to work on it.

Welcome To My Blog
Sup? I'm Zachary Burt, an animator studying at Montserrat College Of Art, currently in my junior year.
In this blog, I shall post many animation related things, and who knows what else.
To start, I will post for you a link to a Youtube channel I recently created.:
http://www.youtube.com/user/Burtzman20?feature=mhsn
I mostly post animations there, and also some of my own original music.
There's not much there now, but that will slowly change...
